Because of how the genetics for calicos work, they're almost always female, but there's a belief among fishermen that male calicos are particularly lucky. The level/type of luck varies by story and region from being more successful with catching fish, to even predicting the weather! So you've given your fisherman villagers a cute little lucky charm!

You are completely correct. Orange cat in the cave is precisely orange cat behaviour. I own an orange cat so I feel qualified to talk about this mmmhmmm. I love minecraft cats but herding them is impossible without leads and a serious amount of patience. I wish they would add more dog variants too, I love dogs and they need an update. fr XD my orange cat, Toby, is wild lmao he used to break into the house alot and SOMEHOW found his way back home after my mom dropped him and his siblings off somewhere far(which i did NOT approve of and was upset to find out bc those where my babies, i found them under our house durin quarantine and raised them)

My orange cat is literally wanted in my neighborhood now. He’s an indoor cat that keeps sneaking out (and doesn’t realize he can use the bathroom outside). One of our neighbors came to our door a week or so ago saying he kept coming over and picking fights with their cat 🤦♀️ Never imagined this idiot cat would do something like that, he’s the most needy and sensitive cat I’ve ever met who comes crying to the door as soon as it gets dark out

Boats weren't updated to break, you just fell from that one specific height which breaks them because of a bug.

True that though, everyone needs a Jellie or... fifteen. (And also a black cat, which mine in real life is.)
I would really enjoy a minecraft update based around animals we can tame as pets, or mostly the dogs. every other animal you can take has multiple colors but the wolves are all the same. i know there's mods to fix it but Id LOVE to see it in vanilla.

For real. It's another reason why I don't play survival mode. The main reason why I don't play survival is because of how tedious it is to gather all those materials and build the structure. It's so time-consuming.

This was an awesome episode, I love cats. And just adding small detailing touches on different things makes for an interesting teaching tool for us to make our own villages better. After you are done this village, hopefully you don't die, you should continue on to the other villages and make the improvements you envisioned for them also. A mining village sounded interesting to light up those dark caves that surrounded the village should help, helping the zombie villager under the igloo and perhaps expand the ice village as well.
it's funny that jellie was so hard to find for you, because when i started playing this seed, Jellie spawned first is this same village

26:10 yeah boats have this weird glitch where if you fall from specific heights, the boat will break and you'll take fall damage. I don't remember what the glitchy heights are but it definitely makes negating fall damage with boats feel more like a gamble💀💀
In the bookstore, you could add a pot on a table to make the greenery look like it's part of the shop more. I once visited this bookshop that had a single vine plant that was so old the vines reached into the open frame ceiling and were strategically grown throughout the shop. It was amazing.

I never knew they were THAT rare! I just play Minecraft and when I see a black cat. I’m like “oh cool! A black cat! I’m going to tame it!”
Black cats also spawn in witch huts, which are also kinda rare.

Since your white cat ended up being a book shop cat, may I suggest the name Pangur Bán? It's from a 9th century poem by an Irish monk that he wrote about his cat by the same name. It would be a lovely literary reference fitting for a book shop cat! :D

ur probably already aware of this, but just in case u didn’t know, if u make the cats walk they will naturally just follow u around and they will find u even if u are super far away! they can even teleport to you! therefore, u don’t really need the leads ❤

Hey Gem, I remembered on episode 2 you told us about some of your plants you had, including the tomato one your grandparents gave you. I just wanted to ask, how are they doing! My father has quite the green thumb (he stands by them all day and breathes on the ones in our house) and has a garden of tomato plants outside our house which we pick just about this time between July and September. They go deliciously with eggs and are just different when freshly picked.

@@xxxcalibur don't know what to tell you. I don't cheat with chunkbase or coords cause i find it too easy and i never found a witch hutt. And the full moon just never worked. And than i forget i want to find it and sleep right through the full moon.

The library is one of my favorite builds you’ve made so far this world. It’s gorgeous looking, and I love the stall outside of it!💕
I can't believe you built a bookstore in your world! I just finished one in our family/friends realm last week. It is a trading hall with all the librarians but it looks like a bookstore. Of course yours is so much prettier than mine (I am not a builder at all, Jimmy has gotten better than me 😂😭). Just a word of advice for future reference holding the fish in your hand the whole time while moving cats makes it easier than leads. Also the more villagers you have in an area the more cats that spawn. In my bookstore I have almost 30 villagers and cats keep spawning like mad.
Because you have Crimson, you should name three of the other cats to Clover, Simon, and Garfunkel.

I didn't realize this was an achievement either Gem. I think I will have to log onto my og world and see if I have that accidently! 😆 I started it back when the only way to tame a cat was to find a jungle and catch an ocelot. Now I have a whole desert library city packed full of cats and librarians. And a ridiculous number of golems.

Using white terracotta with the cherry blossom wood matches so well and works for gradients too. I’ve used it in my cherry blossom wood builds and it matches really well while adding a different texture to the build. You should use it with some of the villager houses.

Cats get distracted easily. Rabbit, chicken, chest, bed...
It's usually my first mission to collect all cats, especially when playing with my siblings since they usually travel a lot before choosing a home.
26:08 Someone may have already said this, but boats have always broken at weird, very specific block height drops and only at that height of a drop. I don't remember the exact numbers, but there are only a select handful that trigger this behavior. So, it is still usually a safe bet to drop a long distance in a boat.

Can someone please explain to me the rationale for using leads on tamed cats, even after seeing one of them teleport to her in the snow village? It seems needlessly complicated. 🤔 The builds this episode are fantastic, though. This village is going to look so beautiful when it's finished. Although, I selfishly hope that it takes a long time to reach the end. 🤠👍
Cats will run to any bed or chest and not follow :| so when around villages, it is super helpful to have leads!!
Of course Jellie had to be the most elusive cat. Scar is most certainly so proud.
I have to agree in that it would be great to see different coloured wood items (bookshelves, chests, barrels, and so forth), based on the wood used to make them. I mean we do it for boats after all and they really aren't used cosmetically as often as others.
As Joe discovered in Hermitopia, herding cats is exactly as difficult as advertised.
I recommend you name each cat after a different Minecraft wood type, since there are eleven now and the first one is Crimson.

I love that full moon cat spawning feature omg the attention to detail the game designers have...
You could also put a conduit in your dock area to help defend off Drowned in case they end up being a nuisance or killing your villagers/cats accidentally. Maybe sea pickles to light up the water as well.

I think the best building to put your cats in would be a bakery, so not only would you have a place for your farmer villagers, but also be able to turn it into a cat cafe!
